Professional help for special needs
For over 150 years, one of Bethel's principle tasks has been to provide closeness and help to sick and disabled children, and to support their worried parents. Bethel's diaconal work began in 1867 by caring for children suffering from seizures.
Today, Bethel provides diverse and differentiated support: Bethel runs special schools at many locations, there is a state-of-the-art paediatric clinic that also offers special disciplines for disabled children, two child psychiatric clinics in Berlin and Bielefeld, a hospice for children and young people, and many other offers and services that are tailored to children's particular needs.
More time and attention for learning
This also works without many words, since Marvin is good at putting himself in other people's shoes. That's why he also likes to slip into other people's roles. For example, when dressing up and playing theatre at Bethel's Mamre Patmos school.
The pupils here have very different abilities. Some need more time and attention to learn, others less. To enable them – just like Marvin – to flourish and develop well in everyday school life and learning, many need intensive support. This includes nursing help, support in lessons or particularly close monitoring due to a risk of seizures. Others cannot manage the journey to the school bus on their own or need help eating lunch in the school canteen. Some children must be particularly closely supervised due to their behavioural problems, including being at risk of self-harm.
Donations for children
Bethel is committed to helping girls and boys who are not on the sunny side of life. We can help them with your donation. Thank you very much!
