You can rely on Markus Trommer
Markus Trommer has already come across a few bizarre street names or numbered streets in his work. However, he doesn't want to reveal too much, as data protection is taken very seriously in direct mail. Born in Thuringia, he has been working in the department, which is part of the Bethel media service in Bielefeld, for over ten years. This is where both internal orders, such as donation letters, thank-you cards, birthday mail and Bethel publications, as well as external customer orders are prepared for dispatch and sent by post.

Sorting, enveloping, weighing and franking are part of the daily tasks. Markus Trommer particularly likes the variety and practical nature of his work. "During my training as an office administrator, I worked in a mailroom, among other places. Those were comparable jobs," he explains. His initial training and previous knowledge are useful to him in his current job at proWerk. The Bethel Foundation offers people with disabilities a variety of employment opportunities, for example in workshops, in the trades, in housekeeping or in gardening and landscaping.
Markus Trommer has been paralysed on one side since he was two years old. This physical handicap hardly limits him at work. He concentrates on checking the address on the cover letter against the data on the pre-printed, personalised transfer form. The two documents are only enveloped if they match. The 42-year-old realises that it is a responsible job. Because what leaves his desk goes directly to donors.

"I have a regular daily routine and social contacts here."
"You can rely on Markus to do his job properly and reliably," says specialist Antonia Wiemer-Sundermann. Not everyone is suitable for working in direct mail: Stamps, for example, should be stuck neatly in the right place on an envelope so that the postmarks hit the stamps. Finally, it is hoped that some used postage stamps will find their way back to Bethel as a donation to the stamp centre.

"I have a regular daily routine and social contacts here," says Markus Trommer, listing other advantages of his employment. He would like to work in an integrated workplace again at some point. This involves employees carrying out their work in an external company, but continuing to receive support. For health reasons, this is not possible for Markus Trommer at the moment. "But who knows what the future holds?"
